Homemade Eczema Treatment
Homemade Eczema Treatment
Eczema is a broad term that applies to different kinds of skin irritation, all of which are characterized by varying degrees of persistent dryness or rashes. Eczema can be mildly irritating and itchy, but if left untreated or made worse by wrong treatment methods, it can be downright ugly and even bloody. If you have eczema but have no time to go to the doctor, then you may need a homemade eczema treatment to help you out.
In general, eczema is caused by lack of skin moisture, so the key to making any homemade eczema treatment is to ensure skin moisture, as well as to avoid anything that will dry out the skin. This can mean applying commercial bath oils, moisturizers, ointments, or creams. In addition, it can mean staying away from harsh soaps, perfumes, colognes, powder, detergents, and bleaches.
The most common homemade eczema treatment will often involve oatmeal. Oatmeal grains, if added to moisturizing soap or creams, can keep skin moisturized and protected. Just be sure to avoid rubbing the oatmeal over the surface of your skin, as this can abrade your skin and add to the itching.
If you are seeking to make a homemade eczema treatment, you have quite a number of herbs and oils at your disposal. You can mix in different oils in your bath, such as tea tree oil (which is also good for treating dandruff), linseed oil, evening primrose oil, and cod liver oil. Herbs such as licorice and clematis are also good additions to your bath. If you have fresh nutmeg, you can grind it up into a paste and apply it to your skin in order to add and keep in moisture.
If you are making a homemade eczema treatment, consult with your doctor or dermatologist first. You might be allergic to certain oils or creams, so you do not want to worsen your condition.
