Baby Eczema Rash
Treatment For Baby Rash – Can Good Home Hygiene Cause Eczema?
More parents are seeking treatment for baby rash or eczema. It is reported that about one fifth of children are afflicted with some form of skin condition, primarily eczema.
Eczema is getting more and more prevalent. The sufferers of eczema complain of extreme itchiness, pain from constant scratching and loss of sleep. Eczema definitely reduces the quality of life, and unfortunately seems to have no permanent cure.
Is there any truth to claims by an epidemiologist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine that eczema is caused by our phobia towards dirt and germs? For most of the time, parents insist on a clean and hygienic environment to raise a family. This would mean keeping the house extra clean and germ-free. The children are usually protected from getting dirty as hygiene discipline is imposed early in their life.
This has raised some pertinent arguments in such that by preventing the child from being exposed to common dirt and germs, we are inadvertently weakening the ability of the child’s immune system to react appropriately to infections and other stimuli.
In other words, our obsession to cleanliness and hygiene may have led to our child’s immune system to be weak and lethargic when confronted with dirt and germs from the surrounding. It has been observed that children from medium to large families, where infections are more likely to circulate freely, were less likely to develop eczema.
This idea may be heresy to most doctors. However, it is a matter that should be pursued for the general good of informing the general public on how to keep eczema at bay. It is important to note that better hygiene is responsible for many gains in human health. It is the obsessive measures toward cleanliness, desire to eliminate germs totally and concerted efforts to suppressing illness that are problematic. Hence, treatment for baby rash should also look into the ways the baby is raised and taken care of.
